SPORTS RELIEF MILE - 16 March 2008
Despite the poor weather last Sunday 843 runners, including 8 firemen in full breathing apparatus, completed the St Albans Sport Relief Mile.
The event take place every 2 years and is hosted by St Albans City Youth FC. In 2006 runners had to complete a 1 mile course but on this occasion participants could opt for a 1 mile, 3 mile or 6 mile run through the trees of Highfield Park, the home of St Albans City Youth. All runners managed to complete their challenge despite a very muddy finish.
David Wray a trustee for St Albans City Youth said "It was a great community event. It was only with help from The YMCA, Highfield Park Trust, Leisure Connections, The Local Fire Services and Motivate that we could put on an event of this scale".
Each runner now has to work hard to collect as much sponsorship money as possible to try to exceed the £20,000 St Albans raised by the event in 2006.
Sport Relief helps to fund many of the Comic Relief projects which has transformed lives here in the UK and across the worlds poorest countries.
