Disability Sport in St Albans
Special Olympics St Albans
Special Olympics St Albans is a branch member of Special Olympics GB, a registered charity which provides year round sports training in a variety of Olympic type sports for children and adults with learning disabilities, giving them opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families and other Special Olympics athletes and the community. Special Olympics participate regularly in tournaments around the country to compete against other athletes. These events are popular and our athletes train hard during the year to win medals.
We offer weekly sports sessions in golf, athletics, football, swimming and multi-sport.
Special Olympics St Albans also hosts the annual Regional Swimming Gala; inviting other Special Olympic groups in the region to compete against each other.
Please visit the Special Olympics page for more information.
Passport2leisure
Passport to Leisure
This is a leisure project based in St Albans which aims to integrate adults with learning disabilities into the community via leisure and sporting activities.
The project aims to encourage its members to access community facilities, encourage independence, give carers a much needed break and provide a supportive atmosphere for its members to socialise in. The members contribute to the cost of the day trips and a nominal amount is charged for transport.
To access the scheme you need to contact the Co-ordinator on 01727 827667.
No formal assessment is required and anyone can refer including individuals themselves.
The programme of events is sent out every quarter, and to book you need to call the office.
Please visit the Passport to Leisure page for details on this years programme.
