With healthy living at the top of the agenda, local authorities are working hard to encourage more people to adopt a more active and healthy lifestyle. As the UK's leading public access leisure and sports operator, Leisure Connection is working with their local authority partners to achieve this goal.
So it should be no surprise that Leisure Connection's chief executive Graham Farrant will be one of the judges at the 2008 prestigious MJ Awards, (the awards of the leading local authority magazine The MJ) which will take place in June.
Graham will be judging the 'Promoting Active Communities' category which recognises innovative council projects that have proved to make a difference in encouraging exercise among the residents, with an emphasis on boosting exercise in the harder to reach groups.
Graham Farrant, chief executive of Leisure Connection said: "It's great to be involved with the MJ Awards for the second year and to be judging a category that is very close to my heart. Encouraging more people to become more active, more often is one of Leisure Connection's aims and something which I am proud to say we are currently doing across our estate of more than 80 centres. I am looking forward to learning about the exciting projects and initiatives that are being delivered across the UK and I will be particularly keen to reward those projects that are boosting exercise in the harder to reach groups. We will also be looking to provide a compendium of the best practice that we see from across the country."
The closing date is fast approaching (1 February), so if you haven't already do log onto the Awards Website www.localgov.co.uk/mjawards for more information about how you can get involved, and prepare a submission of your best outreach and community engagement activities.
